The department is equipped with modern auditoriums for the performance of study process. The study process is organized through the bases of department, research laboratories and the economic entities. The study process is focusing on the practical preparation of students. Practical work is carried out in the Laboratory of poultry feeds and poultry products of animal nutrition and Biotechnology center, Laboratory of animal meat characteristics and meat quality assessment, Centre of Josifas Tacas Milking Training and the vivarium. These laboratories also serve for the preparation of students’ final works. Trips to economic entities are used to guide the system. This allows providing more qualified information on manufacturing processes. For the improvement of study quality the department is subscribing to specialty journals. Also the department allows students and teachers to use the internet in class, using video material of animal husbandry systems. Students preparing Bachelor’s and/or Master’s thesis perform experiments in conjunction with the department and laboratory scientists, investigate the quality of raw materials and animal products, analyse indicators of animal digestive process.

Compulsory: cattle production; pig production; poultry production; sheep and goat production; fur animal farming; beekeeping; milking technology; horse production; fishery.
Elective: snail farming and breeding; forest animals and birds’ biology; alternative cropping and animal husbandry; basics of horse breeding; selection of small animals; evolution of milking mechanization.
These disciplines teach about rearing of farm animals for milk, meat and other products; feed and forage preparation technology, special animal nutrition, ways and means for increasing animal genetic potential, ensuring the quality of the production and profitability of livestock farming. Students learn to use new animal production, storage, maintenance, breeding techniques meeting the EU requirements for animal welfare, product quality and environmental sustainability.
Disciplines taught to AHT master’s degree study programme: biotechnology of animals, stock-raising business, apian products and technologies of their output, technologies of pork production, meat biochemistry and meat processing technology, quality of poultry products and their production technologies, milk biochemistry and milk processing technology, technologies of milk production and meat production of cattle.
Disciplines taught to ARM master’s degree study programme: animal Therapy in rehabilitation of patients; raising of animals used for the rehabilitation and recreation.
The students of aforesaid master’s degree programs are studying about high-quality animal production technologies that are environmentally friendly, newest achievements in biotechnology, their application in industrial conditions, the development of functional materials of animal assumptions.

Students study about bovine meat and milk products, cattle farming, pig production, egg and poultry meat production, sheep and goat growing technologies, the influence of milking on milk quality and udder health status, using fodders and applied feeding technologies for the different breed of fur animals, fur and meat production technologies, cultivated fish species in Lithuania; fish rearing in ponds; carp breeding and cultivation techniques.
