Lithuanian Academic Electronic Library (Virtual Library od Lithuania)

Lithuanian Virtual Library is an integral search system allowing search in Lithuanian academic libraries‘ catalogues and other databases. It provides access to LABT (Lithuanian Academic Libraries Network) catalogues, LIBIS (Cumulative Catalogue of Lithuanian Libraries), some foreign library catalogues, external databases, Lithuanian ETD and eLABa. It contains links to full-text information, but it is available only to registered users.

If you want to order or renew borrowed items and to use additional services available only to institution‘s library users, select our Institutional Virtual Library (IVL) from the List of Virtual Libraries and sign in. For registration use LUHS general username and password.

When a user connects they can choose the settings of current and future sessions; to download search results and given requests to e-shelf; to set automatic sending of news to an e-mail; to use library services, for example, to order publications or cancel their ordering; to assign marks to search results and comment resources (as the marks are public, other users can see your marks and use them); to express one‘s opinion about the results.

Lithuanian Virtual Library works on the basis of Primo. Primo is a system of search and presentation of local resources (books, journals, doctoral dissertations of Lithuanian academic libraries network (LABT) ) and remote resources (electronic resources of foreign libraries, subscribed databases and etc.). Readers can see the storage location and accessibility of resources.

You can find information resources in Lithuanian virtual library which are separated into three groups:

Library resources of Lithuanian academic and scientific institutions – information sources of 64 libraries catalogues;

Subscribed databases – access to 181 databases, subscribed  by libraries of Lithuania. These databases are separated into 31 resources, which are named by the titles of institutions subscribing databases;

Other resources – Primo Central catalogue, open access databases and LIBIS cumulative catalogue.The search is done much quicker in Primo Central catalogue, than from subscribed databases. There are more than 400 millions of records cumulated with links to the scientific publications from all over the world and other resources in Primo Central catalogue.

A new enrichment opportunity for search results has been introduced -  Recommendations that can be made both from Primo Central Catalogue and subscribed databases. Recommendations will help you to find the most popular and most relevant scientific information related withthe information that was already found. WEB 2.0 technologies integrated in the webpage of Lithuanian Virtual Library enables a user to get RSS news, to write comments, to rate sources, to attach marks for the sourses found in the libraries catalogues, internet and databases.
